Kitchen Appliances Marietta

Project QuoteGoing green in your new kitchen means energy efficient appliances.

Remodeling your kitchen is the perfect opportunity to turn your kitchen green.  A good place to start is to buy environmentally friendly appliances.

The average home uses more energy in the kitchen than any other room in the house.  Refrigerators, stove tops, ovens, and dishwashers, along with the little things like toasters and blenders, typically account for about 40 percent of an average homes energy bill.  Energy efficient appliances aren’t just kind to the environment, they’re also kind to your wallet.

One thing to ask yourself when looking for your new green appliances is, is it energy efficient? One of the first things to look for that will help you know if you’re getting an energy efficient appliance is a government issued Energy Star.  The Energy Star Program is a government run program that rates the efficiency of many household products.  If you see the Star, you know you’re headed in the right direction.

If you really want a green kitchen, consider you needs carefully.  Bigger isn’t always better for the environment.  If you have a large family, you may really need that oversized dishwasher, but if there’s only two of you, try focusing on more compact options.  The same is true for refrigerators.  If you can live with less space in the fridge, your energy bill will thank you.

Energy efficient appliances don’t just use less energy, they usually demand less energy from their users as well.  For example, green ovens don’t require preheating, and green dishwashers don’t require pre-rinsing, a plus for anyone!

You can save even more energy and water by implementing green habits, as well.  For example, don’t run your dishwasher unless it’s full.  Don’t stand with fridge door open trying to decide what you want.  Keep it closed as often as possible.  Be creative with your cooking, trying to use less energy while you do it.  Use your microwave as much as possible (not a difficult task for most of us) and consider doubling up on dishes in the oven to try to get the most out of one use.

Going green doesn’t have to dictate what you put in your new kitchen design, but keeping it in mind while you’re putting your design together can certainly pay off in the long run, both for you and for the environment.  Be sure to call In Home Services for the deals on the items you’re looking for.
